Choosing Presence Over Pressure
July 18, 2026 / Original Kit letter
For the past couple of weeks, I've had this quiet voice in the back of my mind.
"You should be doing more."
More outreach.
More promotion.
More work on the website.
More planning for the upcoming men's retreat.
If you've ever built something that matters to you, you probably know that voice.
It rarely celebrates what you've done.
It simply moves the finish line.
This week, though, I decided something had to change.
For the past two weeks, my son has been home on his summer break from school.
Before the break started, I'd planned to use that time to finish the website, launch the men's retreat, and put a lot of energy into promotion.
Life had other plans.
Between client work, some deep spiritual work I've been navigating, and a few late nights that came with both, I found myself carrying more than I expected.
The familiar voice showed up again:
"You should be doing more."
Push harder.
Stay up later.
Get more done.
Instead of adding more pressure, I asked myself a different question:
What if this is exactly where I'm supposed to be today?
The retreat will launch.
The website will be finished.
The emails will get written.
The conversations will happen.
I've continued taking steps each day, but I've stopped demanding that today accomplish everything.
I've been more present.
More willing to laugh.
More willing to play.
More willing to let my son simply be a kid on summer break, and let myself simply be his dad.
Ironically, I think that's part of what I've been building all along.
Not a business that constantly demands more from me.
But a life that creates enough freedom to enjoy moments like these without feeling guilty for having them.
I'm learning that there's a difference between commitment and pressure.
Commitment helps me take the next step.
Pressure tells me that whatever I do today will never be enough.
I'm choosing commitment.
I'm releasing the pressure.
The work will still be there tomorrow.
My son won't always be on summer break.
And years from now, I doubt I'll wish I had answered one more email.
I think I'll be grateful for one more afternoon together.

What’s Happening at Pouncil & Company
I’m excited to officially announce that applications are now open for the first Pouncil & Company Men’s Retreat in Roatán, Honduras.
📅 Dates: Labor Day Weekend (September 4–7, 2026)
🌐 Learn more: Mens Retreat I’m looking for 3–5 men who are in a season of transition. Founders, leaders, husbands, fathers, or anyone carrying a lot and looking for the space to step back, gain clarity, and reconnect with what matters most.
This isn’t a conference or a vacation.
It’s a small, intentional experience designed to create the kind of conversations and reflection that are hard to find in everyday life.
Over four days together, we’ll: - Slow down and disconnect from the constant demands of work and life. - Have guided conversations around purpose, capacity, relationships, and leadership. - Explore the beauty of Roatán through shared adventures and local experiences. - Share incredible meals and meaningful conversations with a small group of men. - Leave with greater clarity, renewed energy, and practical next steps for the season ahead.
If you’ve been feeling stretched thin, standing at a crossroads, or simply know it’s time to create space to think again, I’d love to talk with you.
Because this is intentionally limited to just 3–5 men, I’m starting with this community before sharing it publicly.
If you’re interested, simply reply to this email, or visit here to learn more and apply.
I hope to see a few of you in Roatán this September.
